It’s time for another great mate debate and this time it’s between Kelly and her husband, Brett. Kelly wants to take their two boys, one eight and the other five, to Disneyworld. Disneyworld was one of the best memories she ever had as a kid and with their kids growing up so fast, she feels it’s the right time to take them before they don’t even want to hang with them anymore.

Brett has never been to Disneyworld, but he knows this trip is going to cost so much money and rather stay afloat financially rather than go. He doesn’t think it’s a smart idea to put them more in the hole over this trip and believes there are plenty of other things they can do that don’t cost money, and still leaves the boys with great memories.

Kelly understands the trip is going to cost some money and although they agreed to never use credit cards, she is willing to put it on one and get another job just to give the boys this amazing memory. She is even willing to sacrifice eating out on the trip and pack lunches just to save a few bucks.

Like Kelly, Slacker is thinking with his heart. How can you put a price tag on watching your child meet their favorite character? It’s true though, it is a truck ton of money and that’s why Steve is going the logical route. He has to side with Brett. They just don’t have the money and to go broke doing it is just not worth it. Plus, jokingly, Steve says bringing joy to a kid’s life is not worth the investment.

I am siding with Kelly on this. I grew up in Florida and I used to go to Disneyworld all the time! It was always so much fun and I don’t even ride fast rollercoaster’s. Disney helped me dream, it helped me conquer fears, and it taught me patience because lets face it, the lines are outrageous. Also, on a side note, I would love Disneyworld today and I’m 22 years old. I don’t think there should necessarily been an age limit of enjoyment. I hope Kelly’s kids get to experience the place where dreams come true.

Whose side are you on?

Yi!!

Twist of fate is back!!

In case you don’t remember what twist of fate is, we pick up one random phone line and we ask that person what they need in their life. Then, we clear the lines and other listeners come to the rescue and help that person out.

Last time we picked up a random phone line, we got Elizabeth. All she wanted was some new carpet because her basement had been flooded from the storms in July. Local businesses and some amazing people came to her rescue and what started out as carpet, turned into a whole remodel. They fixed cracks in her foundation, problems with the electrical wiring, and found and eliminated moisture built up in the walls, replaced drywall, replaced carpet and painted her basement. Now, Elizabeth and her family have an amazing, safe basement where the children can play at ease. Please, please click here and check out all the local businesses that helped us out and if you ever need anything, please contact one of them. Like Steve said, if you want peace of mind, these guys will get it done for you and do it right!

Today, when we picked up a random phone line, we got Angelica. Angelica is hoping in a twist of fate someone can help get winter clothes for her son and her boyfriend. She just had her baby boy and is living with her parents while her boyfriend is jumping from place to place, working, without any jacket, no gloves… nothing. The baby has a few onesies, but they don’t cut it in these freezing temperatures. They are trying to afford a place to live together, so as they are trying to save some money for that, and for all the things the baby needs, they simply forgot about winter. This storm just snuck up on them and although they are doing what they can, they are literally freezing and need some help. If you would like to help out Angelica, please e-mail us at slackerandsteve at alice1059.com and we will be sure to pass it along to Angelica.

To everyone that has helped out and to all that help us out in the future, we greatly appreciate it and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you! None of this would happen without the amazing listeners we have like you.

According to a recent survey, the most annoying word is “whatever.” Steve uses this all the time! Slacker and Steve have the list for the most annoying words…maybe one of them is “jettison.” A woman on our facebook page said that Slacker and Steve say “jettison” way too much and it was driving her crazy!

For me, it’s not necessarily the words that bother me, it’s the way that people say them. Like if there’s something I need to fix and I tell my boyfriend about it he always says “We’ll see.” Now it’s just to annoy me, though! But other than that, I guess anything that could be showing that you’re annoyed with someone else…like “whatever.” Wow I guess that is the most annoying word.

What’s the most annoying word to you?

Yi!!

The women who work in construction are trying to get the signs that say “Men At Work” changed to “People At Work.”

Neither Slacker nor Steve think that this should happen, but for different reasons. Slacker thinks that the government shouldn’t be spending thousands of dollars to change a sign. Steve thinks that the women on construction sites aren’t really working; they’re just holding the sign. So really it should say something along the lines of “Men At Work, Women Holding Signs.”

I think this is ridiculous. Why spend so much money just to change a sign? If it’s that big of a deal (which it isn’t), then just have a magnetic “wo” to put right in front of the “men” like Slacker was saying. Gender specific things these days are getting to be ridiculous. It’s to the point where some people say you shouldn’t be buying barbie dolls for your daughter because it’s “forcing them to be feminine.” Parents are just confusing their kids with all the non-gender specific things out there now I think. Gender specific toys aside, don’t change the signs. We don’t have the money to fix this, and it doesn’t even need to be fixed.

What do you think? Do the signs bother you?

Until Next Time, xoxo–Intern Elizabeth

Slacker and Steve have a friend that took out a plasma t.v…her significant other was paying a little too much attention to what was coming on next and she ripped it out of the wall! We all know that once that happens, the t.v. will never be mounted again

I’ve never personally been in a fight, but I’ve witnessed some pretty bad ones that had to cost a pretty penny. Why must the person who’s angry always take it out on the house they’re in?! I’ve seen holes that have been punched in walls (later to be covered up with paintings), holes in the ceiling (this is far too difficult to explain) and stair banisters ripped out of the wall! Why, oh why must you punish the house?

What expensive fight did you get in?

Until Next Time, xoxo–Intern Elizabeth

Sammy’s friend’s getting married soon back in her hometown in Ohio and her boyfriend wants to go to the wedding with her. The only problem is, she doesn’t want him to come. Every time you take a new guy to a wedding, you have to introduce him to everyone there. She doesn’t think he’s ever going to see any of these people again, so she doesn’t want to spend her time at the wedding introducing him to new people when she could just be enjoying herself.

Slacker thinks that she has a separate agenda, whether she says so or not. She just wants to see if the grass is greener on the other side…if it is, then she’ll dump the current boyfriend and scurry on out to Ohio. If not, she’ll go home and say “Oh I love you!” Steve agrees with Sammy! She’s only trying to make the whole situation more fun for them both. Neither of them will have fun if they both go because he’ll be all alone when she sees her friends and she’ll have to be introducing him the whole time.

I think she’s being pretty insensitive. First of all, he actually wants to go to a wedding with her so that’s kind of a big deal. Secondly, it takes two seconds to introduce someone. Even if you think that’s going to be annoying, you should tough it out so you can enjoy the wedding with him. That shows that you care about him. She didn’t say she’s uncomfortable with it because they just started dating or that she’s about to break up with him so what’s the big deal? Put on your big girl pants and introduce him to some people; you’ve been together for 7 months! Trying to explain why you don’t want him to come will probably make him feel like you’re uncomfortable or that you don’t think he’s that great.

What do you think she should do?

Yi!

She wants to join the Occupy Wall Street protests, and he’s having nothing of that. She doesn’t want this thing to die and really thinks that she can make a difference. She wants to take a week’s paid vacation time and join. He thinks that this is going to end up being a waste of vacation time. Why not take the time to go on a family vacation instead? The statement’s already been made, and there’s not much that she can do right now. Many of the protests are televised also, so she may get in a position she doesn’t want to with her job. She’s done so well and could soon be a partner in her new firm. She shouldn’t be risking that to become a part of a fizzling protest.

I’m not too sure where I stand on this, but for the most part, I understand where he’s coming from. They’ve done so much for themselves in the past and they’ve created their lives from the bottom. It makes sense for her to stay on the safe side of this right now, or maybe do something more “behind the scenes” with it, like he was saying. Being up front and center is too much of a risk right now, considering where she is with her career. I wish I could make it about scuba diving or something like Slacker said, but I can’t. It’s not about him just putting his foot down and saying “I’m not allowing you to do this.” He’s concerned for her career’s future, and she’s willing to put that in the way to join a fizzling protest. If he were against scuba diving and she wanted to go, I don’t think he would make as big a deal of it because that can’t affect her career later on.

Who’s side are you on?

A 92 year old woman is checking off items from her bucket list every year! She’s gone skydiving and this year drove a Nascar race car among other things.

Slacker mentioned two things that he has on his bucket list: the menage a trois and to play at red rocks.

If I had to think of a few things I really want, it would be to go skydiving one day and maybe to go bungee jumping. I always want to do something daring, but I’m slowly chickening out to everything

Do you have a bucket list?

Yi!

Many women use two towels to dry themselves off because they need one for their body and one for their hair. Slacker and Steve say that if you’re using two towels, then you’re ruining the environment.

I use two towels. I have good reason to use two towels. I have very long, thick hair that you just can’t wring all the water out of no matter how hard you try. It’s like a separate being that sucks up as much water as it possibly can, to be completely honest. If I try to only use one towel, I end up with a wet towel by the time I’m trying to dry off whatever else is wet. Slacker and Steve may be saying that because you have to launder more towels, you’re hurting the environment, but I wait until all my towels are dirty anyway so I can do a whole towel load. I also use my towels two or three times before I put them in the dirty clothes pile. Therefore, I’m doing a solid for the environment and I’m also using multiple towels.

Do you use two towels or one after you shower?

Until Next Time, xoxo–Intern Elizabeth

Usher performed for Bill Clinton on Saturday and his pants ripped mid-performance! Thankfully though, nothing was exposed.

I’ve had wardrobe malfunctions before and they all involved my pants ripping right down the middle. I remember specifically when I was a kid on the playground at school sliding down those rails that are side-by-side. I decided to put one leg on each rail and slide down and my pants obnoxiously ripped while I slid. Talk about embarrassing, especially being a kid in elementary school. Strangely, I don’t remember if I figured out a way to cover it up or if I was completely humiliated…looks like I blocked something from my memory!

Have you ever had a wardrobe malfunction?
