Innocent people are likely confess to a crime they didn’t commit because they wanted to relieve the stress of questioning.
Researchers did two experiments on over 200 college students and asked them about previous criminal and unethical behaviors.
They found that the students would admit to having done some criminal or unethical behavior in order to avoid answering repetitive questions.
Researchers say they do this to avoid short-term stress even though admitted to a crime they didn’t commit could land them in jail.
